Worship is important at Marble Hill Baptist Church.
Music is an important part of worship at Marble Hill. The music adds to the beauty of the service and sets the hearts of the people right. Music enables us to worship God and to express our love for God with more of ourselves—with our heart and soul and strength as well as our mind. It is a gift from God that leads to fuller communion with God. Music has the power to unloose and emancipate energies from deep within us so that we may soar into the realm of transcendence where earthly sorrow and grief are transfigured.
Music is an interesting and somewhat mysterious subject. Music has
the ability to affect an individual’s emotions and mood almost
instantly. Music is one of the few, if not the only, elements of
life that is actually able to transcend every single culture. Even in
our secular society there exists a fascination and obsession with music.
When considering the power of music, the question must be asked, where
exactly did music come from? The answer to this question simply
adds to its mysterious nature because though music seems to have always
been around, no one knows where or with whom it originated.
However, some insight can be gained to this question as one reads
through the Bible, and we encounter numerous heavenly scenes.
Within these scenes, amongst other things, we peculiarly find activities
of worship involving instruments, music, and singing (Job 38:7, Rev
5:11-13, 15:2). This revelation then begs the question…How did it flow?
Did Heaven pull this element up from the earth or did it come down to us
from above? Why is music like nothing else in this world?
Because it did not originate in this world.
Worship and music are interesting subjects. For it seems that
while essential elements of Christianity, elements like faith, prayer,
missions, and preaching will cease on this side of life, music and
worship will go over with us, meeting us on the other side, and carrying
on for all eternity.
Rev. Bill Ross leads the congregational worship at Marble Hill along
with the MHBC praise team. Marble Hill has a blended worship style
with traditional hymns as well as contemporary praise songs.
The Children's music program is led by Rev. Justin Davis. The
children are taught the importance of worship from a young age.
There is a large emphasis placed on the words of each song to teach the
children “how to sing” and “why to sing”, but most importantly “Who they
are singing to”.
